After over a decade together, Dora and Brett celebrated their wedding at the Press Room in Knoxville this past September. I photographed their proposal several years ago, hiding in the trees at Arrington Vineyard, and it was so sweet to be here with them and their family and friends for their wedding ceremony! With an all-star team of vendors and bridal party, the day was perfect.

A Wedding at the Press Room Knoxville

Dora and Brett’s wedding at the Press Room in Knoxville, Tennessee was a night to remember. Every detail was personal and sweet, from Dora’s bright choice of florals to their choice to change into getaway clothes before leaving the venue. All of the lingering guests lined the sidewalk with sparklers to send them on their way in style. One of my favorite aspects of the day is that they chose to have film photography as well. My film photography package is my most popular, and there are so many reasons why!

Let’s talk a little bit about film photography:

What is film and why would you want your wedding captured with it? Film photography is of course the very old school photography, the way cameras used to be. It was taken over by the digital era, but thankfully people still love, appreciate, and make film for us to enjoy. A peak into the mechanics: film photography captures the image onto the film itself, instead of a sensor that translates it into data on my memory card. The shutter opens, lets in the light, and imprints it on the film that I send to my lab for processing. It feels raw, authentic, and tangible. It adds a bit of mystery. Photos I forgot I captured show up in my scans, sometimes with a gorgeous and unexpected light flare if I’ve been shooting into the sun. It can’t be beat. ⁠

It’s all a matter of opinion at the end of the day. I think that film photos hold an elevated look that can’t be replicated with a digital camera and editing. Plus the process is slow, careful, attentive to detail.
