Spencer, Madeline, and their families and friends were some of the sweetest people that I’ve been able to photograph and celebrate with. Their sunny winter wedding was the perfect way to start out my 2020 wedding season! I asked Madeline to share a little bit about their wedding day and their first month of marriage. Here’s the conversation below!
What was the most memorable moment on your wedding day?
“The whole day was just incredible. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. I don’t think I have a most memorable moment because there were a few. One of those moments was definitely the first look. The first look was by far what I was most looking forward to leading up to the wedding. To experience the moment I had been looking forward to for so long, was surreal. I remember walking across the lawn to Spencer, who was turned around, and just thinking, wow, what a beautiful day this is. I feel so amazing and at peace and I can’t wait to be reunited with Spencer and be able to share my excitement with him.
Another moment was when I arrived at the venue, I walked straight back to the outdoor ceremony space and just stood there in aw of it all. The chairs had all been set up, the sun was shining so bright after all the rain we had, and it was all so beautiful. I had not expected the weather in February to be warm enough to have an outdoor wedding, but it was! For so long, I was only able to image what our wedding would look like, but in that moment I was able to see it happen in reality and it was more than I could have hoped for.”
After the many months of planning, were you able to relax and enjoy the day?
“Absolutely. I think this had a lot to do with setting my expectations for how fast and crazy the day could feel. I kept telling myself that I wanted to be intentional about giving myself moments where I slowed down, looked around, and took everything in. I was able to do that and because of that I have a lot of great memories from the day!”
Who were your MVPs through the entire process?
“My bridesmaids, my mom, my wedding coordinator (Mary Nell), and Spencer’s sister were all invaluable people to have at my side on that day. They all worked so hard and were a huge reason why my stress level stayed so low.”
What about the honeymoon? Where did you go, and do you have any favorite parts or funny stories?
“The honeymoon was awesome to have after such a crazy and stressful season. We went to Sandals in the Bahamas. It was BEAUTIFUL weather. The high was always 80 and the lows were only in the 70s. Sandals in the Bahamas has the resort on the main island, where your room is, but they also own part of an island only about 5 minutes away by boat. We went to this island every day because it was very quiet there.”
The wedding was only the beginning of a lifetime together. Anything that you’ve been learning through the first few weeks?“I LOVE being married!! I think giving each other grace as you learn to be and live together is key. We also have been trying to create good habits like eating breakfast and doing a devotional together in the morning. I just love everything about being married so far :)”
